On June 28, 2013, representatives of USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (USAID/OTI) together with local government officials and residents of Talas celebrated the opening of the newly rehabilitated Talas Local Crime Prevention Center (LCPC) #2.
On July 19, 2013, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through its Conflict Mitigation through Targeted Analysis and Community Action (COMTACA) project, will host a Caravan of Peace event at Dasmia restaurant (2 Gorky Street, Bishkek) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be attended by government representatives, media, civil society, and residents of Bishkek and other regions.
On June 5, 2013, the results of the third round of the Passport to Success (PTS) life skills program will be released, demonstrating improved life skills among vulnerable youth living in residential institutions such as boarding schools and orphanages. The findings will also show the results of community service projects undertaken by participating young people.
On May 21, 2013, representatives of USAID’s Kyrgyz Republic Transition Initiative together with local government officials and community members will open improved registration and passport offices in the Suzak district of Jalalabad province.
On May 15, 2013, Carey N. Gordon, USAID Representative to the Kyrgyz Republic presented two grants from the U.S. Government to the Osh State University. The two grants totaling approximately 90, 000 USD will provide equipment to support the expansion of the Independent Testing Center and improve students’ enrollment procedures at the Osh State University. Kanybek Isakov, the University Rector, participated at the event at the large conference hall of the institution at 331 Lenin Street in Osh at 09:30 a. m. on May 15, 2013.
On April 16, 2013, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID),through their joint Kyrgyzstan Parliamentary Strengthening Program (KPSP), will hold a presentation to introduce the program’s third phase, which will be implemented from 2013-2015.
On April 5, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., a Job Fair will be held at the National Library (208 Abdrahmanova St., second floor) for youth seeking new employment opportunities. The job fair is sponsored by the Youth Peer Education Network (Y-Peer) and will bring 250 job-seeking youth together with representatives from 20 companies operating in the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as business experts and consultants.
On April 4, 2013, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided computer hardware, advanced geological modeling software, and other Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic through the USAID REFORMA Project. Kyrgyz Minister of the Economy Temir Sariev and USAID Representative to the Kyrgyz Republic Carey Gordon participated in the handover event.
In honor of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will join international and local partners in supporting the Kyrgyz Republic Ministry of Health’s efforts to raise awareness and understanding of TB. On March 22, 2013 at Victory Square, representatives from the U.S. Embassy and students from Bishkek universities will take part in a run. The event will kick off with a welcome speech from a representative of the Ministry of Health at 12:00 noon.
