Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan — On April 16, 2013, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID),through their joint Kyrgyzstan Parliamentary Strengthening Program (KPSP), will hold a presentation to introduce the program’s third phase, which will be implemented from 2013-2015. At the event, the KPSP will provide its partners and beneficiaries with the opportunity to learn more about the results and achievements of the first and the second phases of the program and to get acquainted with the program’s plan of activities and deliverables for the third phase.  The Speaker of the Parliament, Asylbek Jeenbekov, will deliver welcoming remarks. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the Parliament’s Plenary Session Hall (205 Chui Prospect, Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic).  Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m.

KPSP Phase Three is the final stage of the five-year initiative aimed at creating a strong and independent Parliament in Kyrgyzstan, strengthening parliament’s role in the social and economic life of the country and improving the quality of legislative bills that meet all the requirements of the modern world. Program partners will have the opportunity to offer suggestions, highlight stories of beneficial cooperation and share ideas for the effective implementation of joint efforts and successful partnerships in Phase Three.

The USAID/DFID Kyrgyzstan Parliamentary Strengthening Program has been working with the Kyrgyz Parliament since October 2010. The program was initiated to improve the legislative process, strengthen parliamentary committees, improve information flow on parliamentary activities between the public and the Parliament, and support the Parliament’s Administrative Office in improving human resources management with technical assistance from USAID.
