Malaria is the leading cause of disease and death in Mali. USAID activities support the goal of the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) to reduce malaria-related mortality by 70 percent by the end of 2015.
USAID marked its fifth consecutive year of implementing PMI activities in Mali in 2013, achieving important results:
- Distributed 800,000 long lasting insecticide-treated bed nets, to help prevent malaria
- Achieved 85 percent insecticide-treated bed net ownership, and 70 percent use in Mali
- Procured 2,289,720 anti-malarial treatments for health facilities and community health workers.
