Against incredible odds, Mali passed new legislation guaranteeing more seats for women at the political table. In November 2015, the Malian Parliament adopted a gender quota bill that will reserve onethird of government jobs for women, including in elected offices
The Mali Sub-National Governance Project (SNGP) will work with the national and sub-national governments and civil society to capitalize on renewed efforts to decentralize authority and resources in Mali - key to implementing the Algiers Peace Accord - to give more resources and authority directly to the regional governments.
On Friday, November 20, USAID lost a dear colleague and friend, Anita Datar, in the terrorist attack at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako, Mali. Anita, a Senior Health Scientist for the Palladium Group, was in Bamako working on the USAID-funded Health Policy Plus project to improve reproductive health throughout Mali by engaging with community, religious, women and youth groups. Anita was also a founding member of Tulalens, a non-governmental organization working to provid quality health services to under-served communities around the world.
