The United States through USAID’s Business Growth Initiative has been working with Kyrgyz apparel manufacturers since 2014 to optimize production and marketing in order to tap into multi-billion dollar export markets by targeting major retail chains and branded stores in Europe and CIS.
The 12th Annual International Agriculture Expo, Silk Road 2016, will be held February 25-27 at the Osh National Drama Theater. The Jer Azygy Association of Agro Businessmen of Kyrgyzstan organized the expo with support from the United States through USAID to boost agricultural production and promote trade through exchange of ideas and technologies.
The Osh City Mayor’s Office, in partnership with the Youth of Osh Public Union, presented the Online Map for Citizen Reporting (http://map.oshcity.kg/). The map enables citizens to report to the Mayor’s Office about their needs, problems on their territories and other issues of the city. All reports are registered and indicated on the map so that everyone can see what problems exist in the city and how they are addressed. This tool is launched as part of the Collaborative Governance Program financed by the United States and the United Kingdom.
The Anticorruption Business Council of the Kyrgyz Republic will begin a review of laws that may impact effective protection of property rights of businesses and citizens. The primary goal of the initiative is to reduce the risk of corruption within judicial, fiscal, and law enforcement bodies that affect citizens and business. The project is being implemented with the support of the United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID).
With support from the United States through USAID, the Aga Khan Foundation has launched "Fun Kitep 2" a mobile application with 15 new interactive storybooks in the Kyrgyz language. This free application allows children to read stories and complete fun exercises to encourage reading comprehension.
As a part of nation-wide efforts to enhance education, The United States through USAID is providing training for 1,000 primary school teachers from 80 schools in Chui, Jalal-Abad, Naryn and Issyk-Kul oblasts to improve students’ reading skills.
On the World AIDS Day marked on December 1, 2015, four teams of vulnerable populations and representatives of AIDS-service NGOs will meet in a football match on “El Classico” football field in Bishkek. The match is organized as a symbolic event to show support for people living with HIV, commemorate those who died of the disease and unite our efforts to stop the HIV epidemic.
Ski season in Jyrgalan will start with a Tourism Fest on November 21-22 at the free ride ski base near Karakol.
