On November 18-19, Jyrgalan Valley is hosting a festival to kick off the 2016-2017 ski season, featuring concerts, games and other activities showcasing winter sports, local handicrafts, and guest houses in the burgeoning Tian Shan backcountry ski destination located 60 kilometers east of Karakol. The festival is being organized with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
From July through September, 2016 , the United States, through the USAID Agro Horizon project, sponsored a series of business growth events to connect Kyrgyzstani agricultural producers with local and international buyers.
The U.S. Government, through USAID’s Business Growth Initiative, installed easy-to-read pedestrian maps and road signs in the city of Osh and throughout the oblast to help tourists better navigate the area. On October 21, USAID presented a copy of the map to the Mayor of Osh, Mr. Kadyrbaev, during a ceremony commemorating this initiative.
rom October 11-20, USAID trained representatives of 20 small hotels and guest houses in Batken, Jalal-Abad and Osh on hospitality, marketing, and promotion. The U.S. Government, through USAID’s Business Growth Initiative project, provided these results oriented trainings that will help to strengthen the Kyrgyz Republic’s tourism sector and businesses.
Bishkek – On October 14, 2016, The United States through USAID in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Naryn State Administration, the Naryn Mayor’s Office, the town of Kok Jangak and local family medical centers, organized a youth run and concert to celebrate the Global Handwashing Day and World Food Day. Both events highlighted the important roles good hand washing practices and nutritious diet play in supporting a healthy life.
Prominent English and Turkish language bloggers visited Kyrgyz Republic from August 30 – September 9 on a tour organized by the United States through USAID’s Business Growth Initiative in order to promote Kyrgyz tourism. Fourteen bloggers travelled throughout the country to on tours that highlight the country's potential in culture and adventure tourism.
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – To celebrate International Literacy Day, on September 8th the USAID Reading Together project launched a series of events at hundreds of libraries and schools across the Kyrgyz Republic highlighting the importance of literacy and knowledge. Throughout the month of September, students, teachers and parents will participate in reading and drawing contests, book fairs, round tables, quizzes, and other activities to celebrate learning and promote reading.
BISHKEK – From August 9-10, USAID’s Agro Horizon Project (through Public Association “Agro Lead”) sponsored business-to-business meetings in Bishkek and Osh for agricultural producers. The meetings enabled 58 farmers and small and medium enterprises to explore commercial opportunities for the supply of fresh and processed agricultural products to Frunze, one of the country’s largest chains of supermarkets.
Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan – On August 23-24, over 900 primary school teachers in Naryn oblast received certificates from the Kyrgyz Academy of Education, recognizing their proficiency in new approaches for reading instruction. These teachers are now equipped with innovative techniques to improve the reading skills of students in grades one through four.
