The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) TB CARE project, implemented by the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, handed over a newly renovated facility for treatment of Multi-Drug Resistant TB (MDR-TB) to Oromia Regional Health Bureau, Bishoftu Hospital today. The new MDR-TB facility is to be one of the centers of excellence for the Oromia Region delivering referral services, consultation, mentorship and supervision to all healthcare providers in the region with MDR-TB patients. Additionally, the facility will deliver practical MDR-TB training for health professionals and facilitate research on MDR-TB in the region. Oromia Regional Health Bureau officials, the Bishoftu mayor, and hospital officials joined USAID representatives at the ribbon-cutting handover ceremony.

GE Africa (NYSE: GE) and the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) today announced 22 winners in the second round of their Power Africa Off-Grid Energy Challenge. Selected from nearly 300 applicants, each winner will receive a grant of up to $100,000 to support the deployment of off-grid solutions that put renewable resources
to work to power increased economic activity.

From August 21 to 22, 2014, over 100 African leaders from the public and private sector gathered in Addis Ababa to shape the direction of biotechnology in Ethiopian agricultural development. Improving smallholder resilience and strengthening the enabling environment were prime areas of discussion, highlighting key Feed the Future strategies in the country.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the National Science Foundation, and the National Cancer Institute today announced 46 new research projects to advance the scientific and technical capacity of both the United States and partner countries in critical areas of development. The projects are funded through the Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) program, a joint initiative designed to foster collaborative global research.
