TIRANA, SEPTEMBER 28, 2010 USAID’s Local Governance Program in Albania (LGPA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Urban Research Institute (URI), held a roundtable today with representatives from local government units, line ministries, and other interested stakeholders to present a new manual to help cities manage local assets.
TIRANA, SEPTEMBER 26, 2010 USAID’s two maternal and child health programs have partnered with Albania’s Institute of Public Health to raise awareness of using modern contraception to mark World Contraception Day on September 26, 2010.
USAID sent over 20,000 text messages to Albanian adults 18-35 years old with the message, "It's your life, it's your choice - Use modern contraceptive methods to avoid unplanned pregnancies" – supported by USAID’s health programs to promote maternal and child health.
LIBRAZHD, SEPTEMBER 23, 2010 The Mayor of Librazhd, Mr. Kastriot Begaj, and USAID Officer, Mr. Stephen Herbaly, launched today a new computerized tax system for the Municipality of Librazhd. The system, which was developed through USAID’s Local Governance Program in Albania (LGPA), allows for more efficient and effective administration of tax collections and services that will lead to greater tax revenue for the city and improved services for citizens. This is the 10th opening USAID has supported over the past year in its partner cities.
SHKODRA, SEPTEMBER 16, 2010 Garment and footwear companies operating in the Shkodra region attended a USAID workshop to help them increase the quality of their manufactured products. Throughout September and October, USAID is sponsoring 12 workshops with Albania’s leading garment and footwear manufacturers to improve their competitiveness and export sales.
KORCA, SEPTEMBER 15, 2010 The Municipality of Korça, with support of USAID’s Local Governance Program in Albania (LGPA), celebrated today the ground breaking of a local infrastructure project financed with funds from a municipal loan. The Mayor of Korça, Niko Peleshi, and the USAID Mission Director, Joseph Williams, were present to mark the beginning of work on the project.
