TIRANA, JULY 21, 2010 Thanks to the support of USAID, Albania is one of six countries featured in a special supplement of the June edition of National Geographic Traveler Magazine. “The Western Balkans: Land of Discovery” showcases the natural, historical and cultural treasures of the region. TIRANA, JULY 15, 2010 The International Virtual e-Hospital Foundation (http://www.iveh.org/), the implementer of USAID’s new telemedicine project, held its first training course today with a group of Albanian health specialists from central and regional health institutions. The course is the first of a series of trainings for Albanian doctors and health professionals on telemedicine and e-health.
BURREL, JULY 13, 2010 Today, the Public Information Office in the Mat District Court was officially opened with a public ceremony attended by USAID Mission Director, Joseph C. Williams and Chief Judge, Artan Cupi. The Court’s Public Information Office will improve access to information for citizens, increase transparency of court procedures, and increase trust in the Court and the Albanian judicial system.
KUKES, JULY 9, 2010 The Mayor of Kukes, Hasan Halilaj and the Head of the USAID Mission in Albania, Joseph C. Williams launched today a new computerized tax system for the municipality. The system, which was developed through USAID’s Local Governance Program in Albania (LGPA), allows for more efficient and effective administration of tax collections and services that will lead to greater tax revenue for the municipality and improved services for citizens.
DURRES, JUNE 25, 2010 Today, USAID organized a national conference on family planning in Durres which brought together more than 150 national stakeholders—representing the government, policymakers, providers, international agencies and donors—to promote and increase collaboration to enhance family planning services throughout Albania.
