TIRANA, FEBRUARY 23, 2011 U.S. Ambassador Alexander A. Arvizu announced today that the U.S. Embassy in Tirana will be allocating nearly $360,000 in election related assistance to civil society. The funds will be dedicated to the monitoring of Albanian local elections, which are scheduled for May 8, 2011.

TIRANA, DECEMBER 21, 2010 Today, USAID, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the High Council of Justice, organized a conference “Toward more Transparent, Effective and Accountable Justice in Albania” to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the Albanian justice system, and to launch USAID’s new Albanian Justice Sector Strengthening Project (JuST). Represented at the conference were court chief judges and chancellors from across Albania, representatives of legal professional associations, civil society organizations, and the media.
SHKODRA, DECEMBER 15, 2010 Today, the U.S. Ambassador to Albania, Alexander Arvizu, visited the flooded region of Shkodra and met with officials at the Government of Albania’s disaster operations center to discuss their emergency assistance operations. In his remarks to the media, the Ambassador affirmed the U.S. Government’s commitment to support the Albanian people during both the emergency and long-term recovery efforts.
TIRANA, NOVEMBER 22, 2010 USAID, in partnership with Albania’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports, invited international tourism experts from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, the National Geographic Society and Expedia to meet with Albania’s leading tourism businesses to discuss ways to adopt a more sustainable approach to business growth and increase access to markets.
