This project was designed to replace the Kosovo Food and Veterinary Agency’s (KFVA) multiple redundant and inefficient veterinary and phytosanitary systems with a new, unified system that will ensure better information exchange and interception of animal and plant products.
The outcome of the activity will have a positive impact on international trade, specifically regarding easier and safer movement of goods with animal and plant origin.
EMPOWER Private Sector Support aims to increase competitiveness in growth-ready sectors and facilitate inclusive job creation, while also developing the capacity of local service providers to support the Kosovo private sector and respond to USAID contractor requirements.
USAID developed a loan portfolio guarantee to increase access to finance for Kosovo’s micro, small, and medium enterprises in agricultural value chains, as well as business startups in all sectors. These guarantees give banks the incentive to lend to business startups and agribusinesses, especially young entrepreneurs and farmers, who would otherwise find it difficult or impossible to obtain financing, in order to demonstrate the potential profitability in these sectors. USAID is also working to assist Kosovo’s financial sector to introduce new products tailored to meet the specific needs of start-ups and agricultural businesses.
The Development Credit Authority (DCA) loan portfolio guarantee aims to increase access to credit for Kosovo’s agriculture sector by providing a 50 percent risk guarantee to loans issued by participating banks. The DCA guarantee gives banks the incentive to lend to farmers, who would otherwise find it difficult or impossible to obtain financing, in order to demonstrate their potential profitability.
The Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF) is a perpetual education fund dedicated to the economic development of Kosovo through the education of its people. KAEF supports educational programs that provide Kosovo’s future leaders with the tools they need to promote the country’s future prosperity.
The overall goal of this program is to strengthen linkages among citizens, political parties, and the Assembly to incentivize government bodies to be more responsive to public interests. To achieve this, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) has three mutually reinforcing objectives:
The Public Pulse II project is a continuation of Public Pulse (initially launched jointly with UNDP in 2010). This project will continue the work on research and analysis of pertinent issues as a watchdog that will constructively engage the Government of Kosovo and public institutions in research. The project is implemented in cooperation with Kosovo institutions to increase capacities for utilization of data and research methodologies for addressing problems and issues, as well as to assure stability and facilitate dialogue between institutions and citizens.
USAID’s Property Rights Program (PRP) aims to improve the legal framework and institutional practices and procedures governing property rights, in order to make it easy and straightforward to acquire, register, use and transfer property in Kosovo. The program is working in close partnership with the Government of Kosovo, selected municipalities, and other relevant local and international stakeholders.
The USAID Contract Law Enforcement (CLE) Program is a five-year program to improve rule of law in Kosovo and create a better business environment for economic development and investment. The program is built around two strategic goals:
AKT aims to increase constructive interethnic cooperation and interaction between Kosovo’s majority and minority populations, which is vital to the security and stability of the region. The program takes a holistic approach toward the integration of minority populations by partnering with municipalities and other government partners to support the engagement of targeted communities. In particular, the program works to improve conditions to enable ethnic minorities to actively engage in the work force and Government of Kosovo institutions while preserving and protecting their unique cultural heritage.
