The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the University of California Davis (UC Davis) launched the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Climate Resilient Chickpeas housed at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR). The 5-year, $4 million genetic research program will create more and stronger varieties of chickpea to increase smallholder farmer productivity.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Agricultural Growth Program (AGP)-Livestock Market Development project hosted a grant signing ceremony between USAID and eight grantees today. The eight small grants valued at over $760,000 will encourage local Ethiopian investment and innovation in the livestock sector. The overall purpose is to improve productivity and competitiveness of selected livestock value chains including live animals, meat, and dairy.
Today, the U.S. Government through the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with Ethiopia’s Federal Ministry of Health, launched the Strengthening Ethiopia’s Urban Health Program, which will promote greater health access and improved health status for more than 1.6 million households in 49 cities through high-quality health services. The program will expand upon the existing partnership between USAID and the Government of Ethiopia (GOE), targeting key areas such as HIV, Tuberculosis and maternal and child health. USAID will provide technical assistance to the GOE to improve the quality of household-level health services, improve referral links across health facilities, and enhance urban sanitation and waste management.
Addis Ababa - U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Associate Administrator Mark Feierstein announced the award of two grants to a start-up Ethiopian enterprise, African Bamboo, after touring the company’s testing facility. Mr. Feierstein was in Ethiopia as part of the official U.S. Government delegation to the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.
African Bamboo is one of the 12 organizations awarded a Powering Agriculture grant supported jointly by USAID, U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation, Swedish and German governments, and Duke Energy. The awards support innovative projects aimed at integrating clean energy technology into the agriculture sectors of developing countries to increase production.
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The U.S. Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the United Kingdom, through the Department for International Development (DFID), joined together today to award seven grants to entrepreneurs in the health sector. The seven recipients, Innopia Electromechanical Solutions, Echelon, GE Ethiopia, Kadisco General Hospital, Medical Biotech Laboratories, Tebita Ambulance and Pre-Hospital Emergency Services, and Telemed Medical Services offer innovative private sector solutions that aim to increase the availability and use of health services among low-income populations in Ethiopia.
