The U.S. Embassy, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and in cooperation with the Assiut Potable Water and Sanitation Company and the Egyptian Holding Company for Water and Wastewater Treatment, inaugurated three wastewater treatment systems in Abou Teeg District today. The new systems provide reliable sanitation services for 41,000 residents.
Egypt and the United States signed $143 million in bilateral amendments this week that are aligned with the Government of Egypt’s Sustainable Development 2030 strategy. These amendments signify continued support from the American people for joint U.S.-Egypt priorities in economic growth, agriculture, tourism, governance, water and waste water management, and education.
During a visit to the Sphinx and the Pyramids today, U.S. Ambassador Stephen Beecroft affirmed U.S. support for preserving Egypt’s antiquities and for increasing tourism. Joined by representatives from the Ministry of Antiquities, Ambassador Beecroft saw first-hand the positive impact of U.S. support for Egyptian efforts to preserve the iconic Sphinx and surrounding antiquities for future generations of tourists. Partnering with the Egyptian government to protect these antiquities, the U.S. government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) helped lower groundwater that threatened to damage the site.
Seventy-four outstanding young women from all parts of Egypt were honored on Tuesday, July 28 in Cairo as the first group of MBA and science degree students to depart very soon for the United States under the U.S.-Egypt Higher Education Initiative (HEI) launched in April of this year.
Cairo - Today the United States Embassy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and SMEs, celebrated the end of a four-year USAID project to help small and medium-size Egyptian companies increase exports and become more energy efficient. At the celebration, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced that the program had increased Egyptian companies' export revenue by $17 million.
"The United States is committed to Egypt's inclusive economic growth and continued prosperity," said Sherry F. Carlin, USAID Mission Director in Egypt. "We believe one of the surest ways to promote economic growth is to encourage trade, especially among micro, small, and medium-sized Egyptian companies, since they are so important for the country's economy."
