Cairo – Egypt and the United States signed $143 million in bilateral amendments this week that are aligned with the Government of Egypt’s Sustainable Development 2030 strategy.  These amendments signify continued support from the American people for joint U.S.-Egypt priorities in economic growth, agriculture, tourism, governance, water and waste water management, and education.

“USAID’s partnership with the Ministry of International Cooperation has led to positive gains in the education, health care, and prosperity of the Egyptian people,” said USAID Mission Director to Egypt Sherry F. Carlin.  “We hope to continue this legacy through the amendments we signed this week in cooperation with the Government of Egypt.

Since 1978, the U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has fostered international development cooperation between the United States and Egypt, implementing programs totaling nearly $30 billion since 1978.  Joint activities have directly supported reductions in infant and maternal mortality rates; improvement in reading abilities in the early grades; development of telecommunications, energy, and water infrastructure that reaches nearly all Egyptians; increases in agriculture and water productivity; and a stronger trade and investment environment leading to better jobs and incomes.
