Today, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Azerbaijan hosted a reception to celebrate the achievements of a three-year economic growth project. The formal reception marked the completion of the Azerbaijan Competitiveness and Trade (ACT) project and allowed U.S. Ambassador Richard Morningstar and USAID to thank its counterparts, partners, and beneficiaries for their contributions to the success of the project. The reception gathered representatives from the U.S.
Dr. Brooke Isham assumed her position as the new Mission Director for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Azerbaijan.
As Mission Director for Azerbaijan, Dr. Isham will oversee USAID programs and assistance in the country. These programs support Azerbaijan's reform process by promoting competition and pluralism in the society, laying the foundations for a sustainable market-based democracy.
In order to empower the next generation of business leaders, in December 2012 USAID in partnership with British Petroleum and the American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan (AmCham) launched a Youth Business Leadership project.
On July 05, 2013 the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patent of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a joint Conference on the “Reforms in the Technical Regulation and Standardization System of the Republic of Azerbaijan: Achievements, Priorities and Problems”.
Tuberculosis remains a significant public health challenge in Azerbaijan, with high prevalence and incidence, and a particularly high rate of Multi-Drug Resistant TB (MDR-TB). Azerbaijan is among the 27 high TB burden countries for MDR-TB. In 2010, there were 8,348 notified cases of all forms of TB and a case notification rate of 92.2 per 100,000 population for all forms of TB. In 2011, the estimated number of TB patients in Azerbaijan was 16,000, with 10,100 officially notified by the National TB Program (NTP).
