Overview
USAID's Conflict Mitigation and Management (CMM) program is part of a worldwide effort to bring together individuals of different backgrounds from areas of conflicts in reconciliation activities. These activities provide opportunities to address issues, reconcile differences, and promote greater understanding and mutual respect. USAID West Bank and Gaza Mission and U.S. Embassy Tel Aviv invest in CMM grants that bring together Israelis and Palestinians to work on issues of common concern and to promote peaceful coexistence.
USAID enhances governance and public participation in the West Bank and Gaza by focusing on three complementary areas. The first area is to improve the delivery of and revenue for public services. This includes activities that improve the financial and administrative sustainability of government institutions. The second area is to foster greater checks and balances and accountability of key government institutions. This includes activities that strengthen the rule of law and civil society. The third area is to invest in Conflict Management and Mitigation grants. These grants bring together Israelis and Palestinians to work on issues of common concern and to promote peaceful coexistence. All areas support increased citizen oversight and participation in decision making processes.
USAID partners with the Palestinian Authority to improve municipal services, increase civic engagement, and strengthen the institutional capacities of 72 municipalities, resulting in 95% improvement in service performance and 33% decrease in service processing time.
