The U.S. Mission to Uganda announces the continuing support of the U.S. Government and the American people for the security of Uganda and its increasing refugee population with a $40 million contribution to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). This emergency humanitarian aid, provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through the Office of Food for Peace (FFP), will provide more than 44,000 metric tons of food assistance to those fleeing increased conflict and the deteriorating security situation in South Sudan. This assistance triples U.S. food aid contributions to Uganda in 2016.
Yunus Social Business, in partnership with USAID, is implementing a three-year program with the overall objective to promote economic security in Uganda through supporting Small and Medium Social Businesses to generate sustainable quality jobs, income opportunities, and access to good nutrition and related services for the Ugandan people.
The U.S. Mission to Uganda on September 30, 2016 awarded University Research Co., LLC (URC)’s Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services in East Central Uganda Activity—a $ 55,372,562 million agreement to support the design and implementation of a comprehensive and integrated regional health, HIV/AIDS, and nutrition project.

The Mubende District Youth Camp is an annual event that offers as many as 500 attendees from throughout the district the opportunity to come together and learn about the development programs available to them. The key areas of focus at the camp will be agriculture, leadership, and health. The camp is held in a different district sub-county every year. This year, it’s taking place in Kasambya Sub-County at Das Primary School.
On July 14, Acting Mission Director for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Uganda, Jo Lesser-Oltheten, along with Minister of Tourism, Wildlife, and Antiquities, Professor Ephraim Kamuntu, launched the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) Children’s Activity Book—a wildlife conservation education package designed to inspire young people to appreciate, conserve, and protect Uganda’s unique environment.
U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Deborah R. Malac on June 29 spoke to agricultural processors and smallholder farmers from the Busoga region to promote the benefits and importance of public-private partnerships in increasing agricultural productivity and profits.
U.S. Ambassador Deborah R. Malac on March 30 launched the distribution of more than 1.5 million pupil books and teacher guides in twelve local languages and English to more than 5,000 schools in Uganda. The U.S, Mission, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), also presented the Government of Uganda 54 titles approved by the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) as part of the new national school curriculum. The titles include teacher guides and pupil reading texts for primary 1- 4, in English and in 12 local languages.
On February 2, 2016, the United States Government, in partnership with the Government of Uganda and Mbarara district local government, hosted more than 250 participants at the fourth Regional Forum on the State of the Ugandan Child. The forum put a special focus on the challenges faced by children in southwestern Uganda. Previous regional forums were held in Gulu, Mbale, and Arua.
