The United States implements health programs and fosters collaboration in Thailand primarily through three agencies: USAID, the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC). USAID’s health program in Thailand includes projects targeting HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. USAID’s bilateral funding supports HIV, and regional funding supports tuberculosis and malaria programs in Thailand. USAID’s HIV/AIDS program in Thailand focuses on identifying and addressing the needs of most-at-risk populations and people living with HIV/AIDS, while developing replicable models for HIV prevention and care.
Additionally, USAID works to help mitigate the spread of avian influenza, malaria and tuberculosis, and assists Thailand in building its research ability in infectious diseases, tracking their spread, and training researchers and caregivers. Through a two-year grant, USAID provides government-to-government assistance in malaria control to the Royal Thai Government’s Ministry of Public Health, Bureau of Vector-Borne Diseases.
