The shift of much of Darfur’s population from rural to urban areas has severely stressed the limited water resources available in safe areas. To alleviate potential community conflicts over water, USAID is rehabilitating the Tawila Dam, approximately 50 miles from El Fasher town in North Darfur. This effort is expected to improve access to water for an estimated 50,000 or more people, including internally displaced persons and host communities.
