First, a sincere congratulations to all of our colleagues who worked hard to reach an historic climate agreement at COP 21 in Paris. The leadership displayed at all levels was inspiring. Power Africa led and participated in several events at COP 21, where we announced new partnerships (including agreements with Norway, the UK and the International Renewable Energy Agency), the release of the French version of the Understanding Power Purchase Agreements handbook, a $10 million commitment to the European Union’s ElectriFI project preparation facility, and the launch of Women in African Power. Getting to “Yes” on Power Projects in Benin

In Benin, in West Africa, only one-third of residents have access to reliable electricity. Reaching the other two-thirds, which includes many in rural and remote areas, will require a range of resources and partnerships. Power Africa is working with the Government of Benin to help attract private investment and get power project deals done.

Efficient Financing Makes a Difference in Senegal

Millions of people across sub-Saharan Africa are hungry for the opportunities that reliable, modern electricity service can bring. Too often, however, financial hurdles can impede the flow of energy deals in Africa, forcing countries, companies and communities to wait even longer for power. Streamlining the power project process is one of the most valuable roles Power Africa plays. A recent deal in Senegal, spurred by Power Africa partners.at the International Finance Corporation and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, proves that financing efficiencies can make a real difference.
