The U.S. Government is partnering with Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to build community resilience to floods and other disaster events in Metro Manila.
The U.S. Government provided assistance to families in Barangay Campo Islam, Zamboanga City who lost their homes during a fire that gutted the community on June 4. More than 1,200 individuals from 288 families were affected.
While 92% of the Philippine population had access to an improved source of drinking water in 2010, 15.7 million Filipinos are still without access. This shortfall has serious impacts on economic growth, health and the overall development of the country. There are several reasons for inadequate water supply services, including low levels of investment; poverty linked to an inability to afford services; and policy, regulatory and financing barriers.
Business leaders and officials of major water districts discussed potential partnerships and investment opportunities to help more Filipinos gain access to clean drinking water and sanitation services during the First Water Sector Forum in Makati City.
Implemented in close partnership with the Government of the Philippines and local communities, USAID Rebuild focuses on restoring access to education, health services and promoting livelihood activities, and providing technical assistance to the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery.
