In an expression of concern for the well-being of the people of Zamboanga, the U.S. Embassy is responding to the immediate needs of some 14,000 citizens displaced by the ongoing crisis situation in several areas of the city by designating Pesos 26,400,000 (US$600,000) to provide relief and emergency through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
U.S. Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. together with U.S. Embassy Manila’s Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director, Gloria D. Steele, spent the morning of September 6 in Taloto Elementary School with more than 30 children of fisherfolk from nearby communities. The Ambassador read a story about fish in Mabaw Reef, a marine protected area. The children were later surprised to see three mascots that represent the flagship fish species of different Bohol municipalities.
Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. visited the Province of Bohol today to celebrate the U.S. Government’s strong partnership with the “Heart of the Philippines.” Together with Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto and U.S. Embassy Manila’s United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Gloria D. Steele, Ambassador Thomas also opened an exhibit that highlighted USAID initiatives in Bohol in the past two decades.
After consulting with the Government of the Philippines (GPH), the U.S. Embassy in Manila today mobilized funds from USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) to providenon-food commodities to vulnerable families affected by flooding and landslides. The Embassy is working in close coordination with the Government of the Philippines (GPH) to bolster its ongoing response to thefloods.

The Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) Philippines Forum was held in Makati City on August 14. It was organized by the CTI-Philippines National Coordinating Committee (NCC), co-chaired by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Agriculture (DA) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Enrique T. Ona and U.S. Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. launched 13 projects that will help enhance the overall health of Filipino families under the U.S.-Philippines bilateral health agreement.
