United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director John Groarke gave new varieties of maize seed to Pakistani research organizations and private-sector seed companies today at the National Agricultural Research Center in Islamabad. The new varieties of maize were identified and provided by USAID’s Agriculture Innovation Program, in coordination with the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, in an effort to jumpstart the production of quality hybrid maize seed in Pakistan.

This five-year, $45 million project is funded by the United States government and has been working since 2011 to bridge the gap between the citizens and government of Pakistan.
The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development, recently contributed $20 million to support the provision of food to approximately 1.2 million temporary displaced persons of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, 75,000 earthquake-affected individuals, and 153,500 malnourished women and children in Pakistan.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) held a ceremony today marking the successful completion of a six-month Energy Sector Internship Program that provided recent energy-degree graduates with on-the-job experience and skills training.
