U.S. Ambassador to Mozambique, Douglas Griffiths and USAID/Mozambique Mission Director, Alex Dickie, spent some time last week, visiting the Gorongosa National Park at the central Mozambican Province of Sofala. Since 2006 the U.S. Government, through USAID, has joined efforts with the Government of Mozambique and the Carr Foundation in the Gorongosa Restoration Project.
On Sunday, March 24 Polly Dunford, USAID/ Mozambique Deputy Mission Director travelled to Nampula province to join Mozambican Government officials and health technicians on the official celebrations of World Tuberculosis Day.
Admiral Timothy Ziemer, the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator and leader of the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI)visited Mozambique last week, to witness the impact of U.S. support in efforts to roll-back malaria in Mozambique.
The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the donation, in collaboration with the Government of Mozambique, in humanitarian assistance totaling over $1.7 million, to assist communities and individuals impacted by the floods in the Limpopo river basin, namely at Chókwè, Guijá and Xai-Xai cities.
USAID/ Mozambique has recently partnered with the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) and with two Southern African universities to develop the Media Strengthening Program (MSP). The MSP will work with media professionals, journalism educators, advocacy organizations and civil society organizations to strengthen the quality of news and information available to citizens.
