The Liberia Legal Professional Development & Anti-Corruption Activity (LPAC) seeks to strengthen legal professional development institutions, while building the capacity of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC). Specifically, LPAC will support human institutional capacity development at four legal education, information and professional institutions – the Judicial Institute, the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, the Liberian Legal Information Institute (LiberLii), and the Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA). The aim is to help make those institutions financially and administratively sustainable and able to operate effectively with minimal international donor support.

Furthermore, LPAC aims to increase the Government of Liberia’s ability to prevent, investigate, and prosecute corruption, including within the justice sector, and to educate the public regarding the fight against corruption in Liberia.  Technical assistance and support to the LACC will be provided. In addition, LPAC will also support the Ministry of Justice regarding coordination with the LACC, and civil society and media organizations engaged in anti-corruption initiatives.  

Current Activities

• Start-up activities have begun with consultations ongong with partners to place long-term advisors; advisors are in place in the Law School and the National Bar Association at the moment.
• HICD assessment consultations are ongoing with five LPAC partners organizations.

Planned Outcomes

• Sustainable rule of law institutions established.
• Improved systems to strengthen LACC functions.
