The Liberia International Election Observation (LIEO) Activity aims to enhance the integrity of the polls by conducting impartial and continuous monitoring of all phases of the election process, providing information on the polls for the Liberian public and international partners and demonstrating international support for democratic elections in Liberia. By increasing timely access to information about the election process, the international election observation assessment mission aims to facilitate early responses to emerging issues and contribute to building confidence in the credibility of the electoral process.

Accomplishments to Date
- Observed the national voter registration process to date;
- Deployed a pre-election assessment mission to examine the voter registration process as well as the political environment and preparations for the October 2017 polls;
- Reported assessment findings and recommendations to stakeholders through post-assessment statement and press conference;
- Deployed an assessment team to Foya during the by-election for the replacement of Representative of district one in Lofa County.
Planned Outcomes
- Two pre-election assessment missions to assess election preparations and offer recommendations to stakeholders at key points in the election cycle.
- Periodic reports featuring findings from long term observation teams deployed to observe the campaign period and election preparations at the county-level.
- Thematic analysis focusing on three key aspects of the elections – election administration and the legal framework; gender; and the media.
- Deployment of short-term observers around Election Day to meet with stakeholders and observer the conduct of the election at polling stations around the country.
- Monitoring of the post-election period including the announcement of results and the resolution of electoral disputes.
- Facilitate post-election dialogue among Liberian election stakeholders to identify lessons learned on the conduct of the election and set priorities for electoral reform.
