USAID works with the Government of Laos, in collaboration with other countries in the region, to address climate change challenges and conserve biodiversity. USAID is improving forest management practices and reducing carbon emissions from land use; increasing resilience and improving the ability of communities to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change; increasing access to funding for climate change adaptation projects; improving management of sediment flows through hydropower dams; and promoting low-emission development with assistance in greenhouse gas accounting.
To promote biodiversity conservation, USAID improves the ability of law enforcement entities to combat illegal wildlife trafficking. Through the Mekong River Commission, our programming works to increase the ability of the Government of Laos to sustainably manage fisheries.
