The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launches a new USAID Agro Horizon Project to boost the growth of diversified and equitable agricultural sector in the Kyrgyz Republic. The project will be launched at a two-day event that will bring together the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Governors of Osh, Batken, Jalalabad, and Naryn oblasts, representatives of local government, agricultural associations, entrepreneurs, micro credit companies, and international organizations. The event will be held February 24 – 25, 2015 at the Classic Hotel, 143 Aliyev Street, Osh, Kyrgyzstan. USAID Agro Horizon is a four-year project that will contribute to the agricultural production and food security by increasing the productivity and competitiveness of Kyrgyzstan’s agricultural producers and agro enterprises in value chains for the fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, and poultry (egg production). The project focuses on Osh, Jalalabad, Batken, and Naryn oblasts to increase the incomes and improve nutrition of smallholders that will contribute to the overall agricultural growth. The USAID Agro Horizon will help the farmers and agribusinesses to adopt the advanced agricultural techniques, as well as improve their knowledge in business planning and management practices. Another critical component of the project is to facilitate the opportunities and empowerment of women and youth. Also, the project promotes improvement of business and policy environment and access to domestic and foreign markets. USAID Agro Horizon Project is implemented by ACDI/VOCA in partnership with HELVETAS, a Swiss Intercooperation.
