Cairo – Today the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the expansion of an energy efficiency program to help small and medium enterprises reduce energy costs. 

“USAID is committed to working with the Egyptian people to increase energy efficiency in Egypt,” said Jacinto Fabiosa, Trade and Investment Team Leader with USAID in Egypt. “If firms can improve their energy efficiency, they can save on energy costs – and become more competitive, grow their business, and create more jobs.”

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) hosted a book launch yesterday for the third edition of Intellectual Property: Principles and Practice, a comprehensive Arabic-language reference work and textbook on intellectual property.  This third publication, funded by USAID through the U.S. Embassy, is an updated and expanded edition of the 2002 publication which provided the first Arabic-language overview of intellectual property available in Egypt for attorneys, judges, prosecutors, and intellectual property professionals.

Today the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population began phase two of the National Polio Immunization Campaign to provide the second dose of polio vaccinations to 14.3 million children under the age of 5.  The U.S. government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is supporting the logistics and operations of the campaign to help Egypt sustain its polio-free status.

South Valley University hosted an employment fair on Saturday that connected thousands of job seekers with prospective employers.  Sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and World Learning, the fair took place at South Valley University’s Career Development Center, one of several USAID-funded Centers at public universities across Egypt that connect students and recent graduates with the regional labor market.

Egypt and the United States signed $268 million in bilateral agreements this week that signify a new era in support from the American people for joint U.S.-Egypt priorities in economic growth, agriculture, tourism, governance, water and waste water management, and education. These historic agreements result from close consultation between governments and detail the terms for cooperative support between the Governments of Egypt and the United States.
