The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), BP on behalf of its co-ventures in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Shah Deniz, and South Caucasus Pipeline, and the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) today launched a new Youth Business Leadership project in support of professional development of the next generation of business leaders in Azerbaijan.
Two new milk collection centers in Karrar and Garabujag villages (Kurdamir District) of Azerbaijan were opened on November 25, 2012. These Centers were established by the “Community Based Support to Producers of Dairy Products” project funded by USAID/Azerbaijan in partnership the British Petroleum (BP).
On November 30, 2012 East-West Management Institute (EWMI) in partnership with the Council of State Support to NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a national conference on “Citizen Participation: International and National Best Practices”. The conference was organized by International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL), one of the partners implementing the Socio-Economic Development Activity (SEDA), funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and co-financed by the Government of Azerbaijan.
Today, nearly 100 stakeholders representing government, international organizations, intergovernmental organizations, and local NGOs participated in a Women Leadership Conference organized by the Women Participation Program (WPP) in partnership with the State Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs of Azerbaijan.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Baku State University (BSU) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate on the development of a new Maritime and Energy Law LLM program within the Law Faculty at BSU in preparation for the 2013-2014 academic year. Michael Greene, USAID/Azerbaijan Mission Director, and Abel Maharramov, BSU Rector, signed the memorandum.
On October 23, 2012 the Financial Monitoring Service (FMS) of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), presented its newly developed e-learning system to various public and financial institutions.
The FMS developed the e-learning system in close collaboration with USAID/Azerbaijan. The purpose of the system is to facilitate the dissemination of knowledge regarding Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) requirements to a wider audience through more efficient and consistent means.
Thirty kiosks, providing free Internet access to communities in remote villages in 29 districts across Azerbaijan, are installed by IREX under the USAID-funded Azerbaijan New Media Project.
On September 27, 2012 the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), jointly with the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBAR) held a one day “Problem Loan Management” workshop for representatives of the local banking community to raise awareness among the private sector and bank regulators regarding the risks posed by non-performing loans and the methods by which these risks can be managed.
Fifty young men and women from Ganja, Samukh, Goygol, Goranboy and other neighboring regions of Azerbaijan participated in an Emerging Leaders camp conducted by the National Democratic Institute (NDI), from 4 to 7 August, 2012. The summer camp held in the Oguz district was organized by the Ganja-based Bridge to the Future organization, supported by the USAID-funded Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) implemented by NDI.
