With the evergrowing expansion of mobile networks and the increasing affordability of mobile devices, a majority of farmers can now receive market prices, farming techniques and other key agricultural information via short message service (SMS, also referred to as text messages). Less common, however, are smartphone applications for farmers. With this in mind, 8villages developed The Farmer smartphone application to deliver richer content and improve the user experience for farmers receiving agricultural information via mobile technology in Myanmar.

Welcome to USAID’s Regional Development Mission for Asia. As we prepare to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22, we would like to share some information about what the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is doing to help protect biodiversity by fighting wildlife crime. We also would like to talk about how we are reaching out to others to find innovative ways to deal with this very important issue, including from our own Regional Development Mission here in Bangkok.

HANOI, May 14, 2015 – In a ground-breaking agreement, government officials and civil society representatives from across the Mekong region established a working group to develop a regional public participation guideline for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) this week in Hanoi, Vietnam.
