Mission Director

Ted Gehr is responsible for overseeing USAID’s bilateral program in Nicaragua. Prior to his arrival in Nicaragua, he served as Deputy Director of USAID’s Mission in Peru from October of 2012 until June 2015. He was also Deputy Director of USAID/Pakistan, heading up the Provincial Office in the Punjab.

Mr. Gehr also served as USAID’s Senior Development Advisor to the U.S. Pacific Command (2008-2011). He was a Program and Project Development Officer in USAID overseas field missions in India (2004-2008), Bolivia (2000-2004), the Dominican Republic (1996-2000), and Egypt (1992-1996). In these positions, he was responsible for USAID Mission strategic planning, project design, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation, donor coordination, public-private partnerships, and communications and outreach.

Before joining USAID, Mr. Gehr served as a Professional Staff Member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where he focused on Latin America (1990-1992). He also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica (1985-1987). Mr. Gehr has a Master’s in International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. He received a Bachelor’s degree, majoring in Political Science and Spanish, from the University of Oregon.
