General Information

Crude Degummed Soybean Oil (CDSO) is pure but inedible soybean oil produced from fair to average quality crude soybeans. The majority of the free fatty acids and gums naturally present in soybeans are removed by hydration and mechanical or physical separation. Degumming is completed at refineries in the United States prior to export. CDSO is then shipped in bulk in tankers that must meet USDA requirements prior to departure, and repackaged upon delivery. Programming Guidance

CDSO is used in Food for Progress and Title II programming. It requires further processing, such as refinement, bleaching, deodorizing and filtration, before it is considered an edible oil to be used in cooking or food products.
