Today, U.S. Ambassador David Shear officially introduced a new U.S.-supported program that will provide a comprehensive range of services that will benefit approximately 10,000 Vietnamese with disabilities.

Vietnam is showing leadership in this area and the United States is very pleased to partner with Vietnam to effectively detect and control infectious diseases, before they damage the health and livelihoods of the people of Vietnam and the world.

More than 50 staff members the Vietnam National Assembly's Institute of Legislative Studies (ILS) have received training in areas of policy analysis and legislative research and nearly 200 deputies and staff of the Office of the National Assembly have participated in public policy workshops under a U.S.-supported program to help improve the quality of national legislation.

I am so pleased to see the young people gathered here today. Your generation is particularly important to the cause we are here to discuss. It is a pleasure to join you today to commemorate World TB Day and emphasize this year's theme of stopping TB in our lifetime. A lifetime may seem long, but TB involves complex challenges and a lot of work.
