More than 280,000 people in Vietnam received HIV testing services, and 15,000 adults and children newly enrolled for antiretroviral treatment (ART) thanks to support from the U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) Sustainable Management of the HIV/AIDS Response and Transition to Technical Assistance Project (SMART TA) funded under the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

In collaboration with the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC), USAID’s Governance for Inclusive Growth (GIG) program conducted a workshop, “Developing an Action Plan for Implementation of Category B and C Commitments under the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA),” in Hanoi from November 29 to December 1.  This workshop will help Vietnam develop an action plan to implement its remaining commitments to the TFA over the next few years.

On 15 November, USAID Vietnam Mission Director Michael Greene, representatives of the Long An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and local farmers attended a training supported by USAID’s Vietnam Forests and Deltas program to inform farmers about improved planting techniques that reduce inputs and increase yield and profits.

On November 10-11, the USAID Healthy Markets project, in collaboration with HCMC Provincial AIDS Committee and the USAID Enhanced Community HIV Link - Southern Project, conducted a training on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for community-based organizations (CBOs) and other agencies.

On November 10, the USAID Mission Director witnessed Vietnamese authorities destroy 2,200 kg of ivory and 70 kg of rhino horn from their stockpile, putting 330 elephants and over 20 rhinos permanently to rest.
