Dushanbe, Tajikistan – U.S. Chargѐ d’Affaires Kevin Covert joined Deputy Minister of Education and Science Latofat Naziri, local education officials and stakeholders, implementing partners, students, librarians, and teachers to celebrate the shared accomplishments of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Quality Reading Project partnership as it closes after four years.

Through USAID, the U.S. government partnered with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Republican Teacher Training Institute, the Republican Methodological Center, the Academy of Education, and the National Testing Center to improve reading instruction in Tajik and Russian language primary grade classes, reaching over 435,000 primary grade students.

U. S. Government Supports Literacy in Tajikistan

U.S. Ambassador Elisabeth Millard joined Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan Latofat Naziri, local education officials, teachers, and education stakeholders at the joint Ministry and USAID Quality Reading Project presentation of the 2016 Early Grade Reading Assessment midterm findings. The baseline data was presented in December 2014.

U.S. Government Donates Medical Supplies to Maternity Hospitals in Khatlon Province

The United States Chargé d'Affaires Leslie Hayden, Deputy Chairman of Bokhtar District Dilafruz Mahmadalieva and Head of Health Department of Khatlon Province Saidullo Mallazoda opened the ceremony to deliver disposable medical supplies to 14 maternity hospitals in Khatlon province. The delivery was possible through support of Feed the Future Tajikistan Health and Nutrition Project funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID). These 14 maternity hospitals serve more than one million people. The supplies are needed to improve health care services for mothers and newborns and include disposable exam and surgical gloves, syringes, cotton balls, face masks, and infusion sets.

U.S. Government Recognizes Journalists in Tajikistan for Coverage of Tuberculosis

U.S. Government Launches New Health Project to Decrease HIV Cases

The United States government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), announced a new five-year USAID Central Asia HIV flagship project that will operate in Dushanbe, its surrounding areas, and the Sughd province. U.S. Ambassador Elisabeth Millard and Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of Population in Tajikistan, Navruz Jafarov, opened the event which was attended by government officials, donor representatives, and other stakeholders.

U.S. Government Commemorates the Successes of USAID Land Reform and Restructuring Project

The USAID Land Reform and Farm Restructuring Project hosted an event in Dushanbe to celebrate the completion of this three-year project aimed at strengthening land-use rights to help create a land market in Tajikistan. U.S. Ambassador Elisabeth Millard and Chairperson of the Committee for Women’s and Family Affairs at the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Qosimzoda Idigul Tagho welcomed participants of the Women and Water Forum.  In this forum, more than 120 partners and beneficiaries of USAID’s Local Governance Project actively discussed how rural women can and should take part in the decision making process regarding the supply and management of drinking water.  They also debated gender policy and participation of neighborhood committees in relation to delivery and management of water infrastructure projects.
