Belgrade, October 2013 – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided Junior Achievement Serbia with a $260,000 grant to support entrepreneurial educational programs in elementary and secondary schools for the next two years.

The project, called "You Can Change the Future," will organize local, regional and national trade fairs and competitions, as well as training for teachers to encourage student involvement and build the entrepreneurial spirit among young people.  Junior Achievement Serbia will also raise the public's awareness about the benefits of business education programs.

"USAID is proud to support Junior Achievement Serbia's efforts to build young Serbians' entrepreneurial skills," said USAID Mission Director Susan K. Fritz.  "The program will give students the knowledge they need to start their own business or work for other businesses upon graduation from high school, an important component lacking in many schools' curriculums."

Junior Achievement Serbia has been providing educational programs in Serbian schools for a decade.  It is one of 123 national organizations in Junior Achievement Worldwide's global network.  Junior Achievement was founded in 1919.

Junior Achievement Serbia is encouraging the private sector to take an active role in preparing and inspiring students to become contributing members of society.  It educates young people in entrepreneurship, finance, and business management.  More than 40,000 students from 230 schools have participated in Junior Achievement Serbia's programs since its inception.

"The You Can Change the Future" program will strive to incorporate Junior Achievement values into the Serbian educational system," said Junior Achievement Serbia's Executive Director Darko Radičanin.  "It will bring the educational and business communities closer together, inspire innovation and creativity among young people, and increase their employability."

USAID is increasing direct support to local Serbian organizations like Junior Achievement Serbia as part of a broader effort to change the way USAID delivers assistance.  Direct assistance to organizations strengthens their capacity and uses USAID funds more efficiently.
