Pirot – On Wednesday, April 1, 2015, the Minister of Justice Nikola Selaković, the U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Michael D. Kirby, and the Norwegian Ambassador to Serbia Nils Ragnar Kamsvåg, officially opened the newly renovated premises of the Higher, Basic and Misdemeanor Courts in Pirot. The President of the High Court Council and Supreme Court of Cassation as well as the Pirot Court Presidents will be in attendance.

The upgrades to the courts’ facilities will improve access to justice and judicial services. They are a result of a partnership between the Ministry of Justice, USAID, and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.   

The Higher and Basic Courts were renovated with financial assistance from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Misdemeanor Court was renovated with financial support from USAID. All three courts are located within one building in downtown Pirot.

The renovations at the Higher and Basic courts include the reconstruction of the building’s roof and attic space; installation of a fire protection system and a wheelchair ramp; the refurbishing of courtrooms, the archive room and hallways; and the construction of a new, large courtroom in the Higher Court.

The renovations at the Misdemeanor Court include the installation of a “one-stop-stop” intake and information counter, the construction of a new courtroom to enable open hearings, the procurement of new furniture, and the installation of a Local Area Network to enable computer connectivity within the court and court-wide internet access.
