March 2015—Since Kazakhstan’s adoption of a law on energy saving in 2012, the country has sought to grow its community of energy auditors and energy management professionals to help companies implement energy efficiency programs and boost economic growth.

To help meet this need, USAID, with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), launched the first Kazakhstan chapter of the AEE in Astana, Kazakhstan, in September 2014.

AEE is the leading global association of energy practitioners and provides internationally certified training programs on energy management and energy auditing. Through conferences, newsletters and trainings, it also provides professional development and networking programs to promote access to best practices in energy efficiency.

“AEE’s Kazakhstan chapter will provide training and networking opportunities for Kazakhstani experts to help accelerate energy efficiency across the country,” said Yerbulat Buxukbayev, president of the Kazakhstan chapter.

The new AEE chapter brings together leading energy practitioners and policymakers from government, business and higher education organizations across the country to help achieve the common goal of increasing energy efficiency and implementing Kazakhstan’s national energy strategy, which was created in August 2013.

USAID's support is part of its Kazakhstan Climate Change Mitigation Program, which runs from 2013 to 2016. The program is helping to accelerate sustainable, climate-resilient economic growth in Kazakhstan as well as increase the number of internationally trained energy professionals who will help Kazakhstan improve the energy efficiency of its economy.
