U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Jerry Bisson joined President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain today for the inauguration ceremony of the USAID-funded $1.5 million Faculty of Education building at the Karakoram International University (KIU).  KIU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalil Ahmed was also present at the event.

The newly constructed building is one of the 17 Faculties of Education buildings that USAID has constructed or rehabilitated in order to train Pakistan’s next generation of teachers and education professionals.  These facilities will serve over 6,500 students and over 500 faculty members each year.

President Hussain acknowledged USAID’s role in promoting access to high-quality education in the province and throughout Pakistan through infrastructure support.  He also recognized the significance of having a modern Faculty of Education and the need to prepare well-trained educators in Pakistan.

Islamabad, January 5, 2016 - More than 18,000 temporarily displaced farmers returning to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas recently received agricultural support from the United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  The supplies will help the farmers during the rabi sowing season, allowing them to grow crops and earn an income as well as to feed their own families.

Senior officials from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan held a send-off reception today at the National University of Sciences and Technology for approximately two dozen students and faculty who are departing for a semester abroad at Arizona State University.

Seventy six students from FATA received their Higher Secondary School Certificate today during a ceremony held in Islamabad.  Secretary of Economic Affairs Division Muhammad Sethi and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director John Groarke distributed certificates to the studentswho completed their studies through the USAID FATA Scholarship Program.

USAID Deputy Mission Director Cathy Moore celebrated the launch of four new mobile libraries provided through the Pakistan Reading Project at a government secondary school in Islamabad today as part of International Literacy Day, a global effort to encourage reading and education.  The new buses will bring reading materials to more than 300 communities across Pakistan, reaching more than 2,500 students in 100 primary schools in Islamabad alone, and many more in rural parts of the nation which may not have traditional library resources.

U.S. Mission to Pakistan’s Coordinator for Economic and Development Assistance Leon Waskin joined NEPRA Chairman  Brig. (Rtd.) Tariq Saddozai at the Marriott Hotel on Wednesday to commemorate the successful completion of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Power Distribution Program.  The five-year, $218 million project is a part of the U.S. government’s commitment to support the Government of Pakistan to improve the energy sector.  The Program introduced several innovative technologies to Pakistan, such as smarter meters and anti-theft cables, which are helping power distribution companies reduce losses and increase revenues.

USAID Mission Director John Groarke commended new breakthroughs in Pakistan’s agricultural sector today at USAID’s Agricultural Technology Conference at the Serena Hotel.  Joined by the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sikander Hayat Bosan, Groarke met with more than 200 Pakistani farmers, scientists, and agricultural leaders who highlighted new agricultural technologies made possible by USAID’s Agricultural Innovation Program (AIP).
