WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg, swore in Teresa McGhie as the new Mission Director for Angola. This will be McGhie's first posting as Mission Director, where she will oversee programs supporting democracy and governance, local elections, economic growth, and the President's Malaria Initiative (PMI).

McGhie joined USAID in 2000 as a Legal Officer and most recently served as Deputy Mission Director in Mozambique. Previously, McGhie served as a Regional Legal Advisor in Sudan, where she provided legal advice for USAID's largest humanitarian program at the time and for USAID/Sudan's complex development programs. She also served in the Regional Development Mission for Asia in Bangkok, and the East Africa Regional Mission in Nairobi.

Prior to her Foreign Service career, McGhie was an associate attorney with Sidley and Austin in Washington, D.C., and with Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe in New York City. She also served as the Assistant Director of the International Legal Studies Program and Director of the Summer Law Program in Chile for the Washington College of Law, American University.

McGhie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Utah State University and a Juris Doctor degree from American University.
