Washington – Sherry Carlin was sworn in today as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) mission director to Sri Lanka and the Maldives. 

Denise Rollins, Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for USAID’s Asia Bureau, presided over the ceremonies, and Associate Administrator Mark Feierstein administered the oath of office in the presence of her friends and colleagues. 

A Senior Foreign Service Officer, Carlin led a team of 156 staff members during her four-year assignment as Deputy Mission Director for USAID’s West Bank and Gaza Mission. She has been an integral part of USAID’s relief and development efforts in the Caucasus, Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, and Central and Eastern Europe for the past 19 years.

Carlin directed programs in rural and institutional development, health, food aid, emergency relief, and, reconstruction and infrastructure, and has completed tours in Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, West Bank and Gaza, Pakistan, and Washington, DC. 

Prior to joining USAID in 1994, Carlin worked as a coronary care nurse and completed a health policy fellowship in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she served as Senior Health Policy Advisor to the Minister of Health.

A native of Daytona Beach, Fla., Carlin received her BS degree in nursing and MPH degree in health policy from Emory University, and holds a MS degree in national security strategy and certification as a national security professional from the National War College in Washington, DC.
