WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Senior Coordinator for Gender Equality & Women's Empowerment Susan Markham will travel to Berlin, Germany November 8-12, 2015. Her visit will focus on raising the importance ofenabling environments that are needed to empower women economically.
In Berlin, Markham will attend the Women's Economic Empowerment program of the G7 conference that focuses on unlocking the potential for women across business sectors. Markham will provide remarks on a high-level panel, Empowerment Means Business, to discuss USAID's development assistance, specifically programs supporting gender integration and women's empowerment through public-private partnerships in the economic, democracy and governance, health, food security and education sectors.
In addition, Markham will attend the Making Finance Work for Women Summit, hosted by Women's World Banking, where she will underscore the importance of addressing social norms and attitudes about women's roles as economic actors within their local contexts, and continuing to build and communicate the case for the financial gains in investing in women.
