WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Rajiv Shah will travel to Djibouti and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, June 3-4, to meet with African and U.S. Government officials to discuss support for sustainable energy and economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa.

In Djibouti on June 3, Administrator Shah will meet with Djiboutian government officials to unlock opportunity, reduce extreme poverty, and promote innovation by focusing on deepening the partnership between USAID and the Government of Djibouti in health, education, workforce development and the nation’s energy sector.

In Addis Ababa on June 4, Administrator Shah will attend the U.S.-Africa Energy Ministerial. The Ministerial, co-hosted by U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz and Ethiopian Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy Alemayehu Tegunu will bring together representatives from the government, private sector, and academic communities to discuss best practices and technologies for sustainable energy development in Africa.

Other high-level U.S. officials participating in the Ministerial include Patricia Haslach, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia; Fred Hochberg, Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the U.S.; Gayle Smith, Special Assistant to the President and National Security Council Senior Director; Andrew M. Herscowitz, President Obama's Coordinator for Power Africa and Trade Africa; Leocadia Zak, Director of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency; and Elizabeth Littlefield, President of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation.
