U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Assistant Administrator for Europe and Eurasia Thomas O. Melia will travel to Georgia from December 16-20, 2016.
Assistant Administrator Melia will co-chair the U.S.-Georgia Strategic Partnership Commission's People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges Working Group on December 19 with Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Europe and Eurasian Affairs Benjamin Ziff. One of four working groups under the Commission, the working group was formed to advance cooperation in the areas of public outreach, education, health, and sports, and cultural exchanges. Discussions will focus on economic and political reforms, strategic communications, education issues with the occupied territories, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship.
While in Georgia, Assistant Administrator Melia will also meet with Georgian officials and members of civil society organizations to discuss continuing democratic and economic reforms.
