USAID is supporting the Government of Pakistan by repairing and rehabilitating Jamshoro Thermal Power Station, located near the city of Hyderabad in Sindh. Aging equipment and deferred maintenance had reduced the station's power generation capacity.
The project restored generation capacity to supply electricity to the surrounding Pakistani population. The improvements have reduced fuel consumption, improved heat rate, and supported annual fuel cost savings.
Objectives
The project objective is to rehabilitate the power station and restore 150 MW of generation capacity, enough to supply electricity to more than 1.3 million people. The project will also help to reduce fuel consumption, improve heat rate, and generate annual fuel cost savings.
Main Activities
- Perform an initial assessment of the generation facility to determine the technical and commercial feasibility of the project.
- Rehabilitate boilers, super heater tubes, air pre-heater elements, ID fans, economizers, and other ancillary equipment.
- Procure equipment for the remaining rehabilitation work.
- Conduct heat rate testing for the plant.
