Agriculture is the main livelihood for roughly 75 percent of the Afghan population. The growth of the agriculture sector is crucial for national food security and is a major economic driver for the entire country. 

Since 1996 the American people have contributed more than $1.7 billion to improve the lives of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and help lay the foundations for the country’s future.

USAID/Senegal’s health program is conceptualized as a "pirogue" representing elements of the health system. The body of the pirogue – USAID’s health system strengthening component - supports USAID’s community health, service delivery, and HIV/AIDS and TB activities while being powered by the ―motor‖ of the President’s Malaria Initiative. The pirogue’s ―umbrella‖ covers USAID’s health promotion and behavior change activities.

USAID supports the Government of Senegal to focus on improving reading skills of students in grades 1-8, and improving access to upper primary education (grades 7 and 8) in conflict-affected areas of Senegal. Since 2003, USAID has helped Senegal to improve access, quality, and governance in middle schools through activities to provide Senegalese youth with increased access to a quality middle school education. 

Senegal has a reputation of being one of the few stable democracies in West Africa. This perception was confirmed by the recent 2012 elections marked by the third peaceful transition of power from one president to the other – two of which took place following credible democratic elections.

Secretary of State John F. Kerry announced today the United States will provide $380 million in additional U.S. humanitarian assistance to help those affected by the war in Syria. With this additional funding, the United States’ humanitarian assistance since the crisis began is more than $1.7 billion to help those suffering inside Syria, as well as refugees and host communities in the neighboring countries.

The objectives of TMT are to provide ongoing education and training, economic opportunities, and livelihoods.  The project aims to 1) build economic and trade opportunities for Afghans through the economic, social, and cultural regeneration of Murad Khane, a traditional commercial and craft neighborhood in the center of Kabul’s Old City; 2) provide traditional craft education through the Institute for Afghan Arts and Architecture, and 3) develop the market of Afghan crafts domestically and abroad through business-development activities.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), with the Government of Senegal and its other partners, help to create jobs, fight poverty, and increase food security in Senegal by improving the agricultural sector, natural resources management, trade, and in concert with the Health Office, nutrition – especially of women and children.

The Mining Investment and Development for Afghanistan Sustainability (MIDAS) project assisted the Government of Afghanistan to responsibly develop the nation’s mining industry by improving its ability to plan, design and implement mining concessions through transparent tender processes. MIDAS supported initiatives to make Afghanistan’s mining industry a key source of government revenues and expand the skilled labor force to include women. MIDAS guided the Afghan government in implementation of legal and regulatory reforms for the industry and provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP).
