The Kenya Pharma activity applies innovative approaches to increase the scale and efficiency of HIV/AIDS care, prevention, and treatment. It works in close collaboration with the Government of Kenya and the National AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Program. Kenya Pharma provides an uninterrupted supply of high-quality, low-cost medical commodities to people living with HIV/AIDS through a drug procurement and distribution system.

Nigeria's education system has not kept pace with the rapid population growth and growing school-age population. The quality of basic education in Nigeria is extremely poor, leading to low demand and unacceptably low academic performance. There are 30 million primary school-aged children in the country, of whom an estimated 10 million are not enrolled in school. 

he West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD) was created in 1987 to “improve the efficiency and effectiveness of small-scale producers and to promote the agribusiness sector.” It has 21 member states in West and Central Africa: eight in the Sahel, eight in coastal countries and five in Central Africa.

The Peace through Development II project (PDEV II) assists communities in Niger, Chad and Burkina Faso to reduce their risk of instability and increase their resilience to violent extremism. PDEV II applies a holistic, community-led approach to address socioeconomic, political and cultural drivers of violent extremism.

The shea industry in West Africa is rapidly expanding. Demand for shea butter produced in the region has nearly doubled in the past ten years, and shea is now an important ingredient in food and cosmetic products worldwide. The industry is centered on women; more than 16 million rural women in Africa contribute to their household incomes by collecting and processing shea kernels.  

Established in September 2011, the Borderless Alliance (BA) represents a private sector-led coalition to increase trade in West Africa and foster change by exposing trade inefficiencies throughout the region.

The African Cashew Alliance (ACA), established in 2006, provides support and technical assistance to cashew processors and farmers, facilitates investments, and promotes market linkages in the cashew industry. Africa is the largest producer of raw cashew nuts (RCN), growing approximately 48% of cashews globally. Smallholder production has more than doubled in the past decade, but processing remains a weakness. Regional processing is on the rise (35,000 MT in 2006 to 137,000 MT in 2014). It is estimated that even a 25% increase in RCN processing will generate over U.S. $100 million in household income.

The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Justice Under Rule of Law in Society project began in 2012 and works to strengthen the rule of law and access to justice in select locations in China.

The Capacity Kenya Project partners with the Government of Kenya and health sector leaders to strengthen and transform health workforce systems in the public, private, and faith-based sectors to enhance health service delivery and, ultimately, improve health outcomes for the people of Kenya. 

In 2013, the U.S. Government launched the U.S.-Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Technical Assistance to Advance Regional Integration project to reinforce its belief that APEC is the premiere forum for advancing trade and investment policy in the Asia-Pacific region.
