Skopje - The USAID project Improving Energy Efficiency for the Low-Income Housing Sector is helping residents of low-income housing in Kumanovo to lower their energy consumption and costs, as well as to strengthen their homeowners associations.  Today, the Mayor of Kumanovo, Mr. Zoran Damjanovski, and Project Director Zoran Kostov of Habitat for Humanity Macedonia signed a memorandum on their cooperation in implementing the project.

“We congratulate Mayor Damjanovski and the Municipality of Kumanovo for their support and participation in this project,” said USAID Mission Director Robert Wuertz.  “In addition, the homeowners of these buildings should be commended for their endorsement of these energy efficiency activities.  In fact, one of the homeowners associations has taken the initiative to themselves fund refurbishments in addition to those implemented through the project.  This is a great example of how a group can work together to successfully address their communal interests.”

The project involves demonstration projects on energy efficiency improvements that significantly decrease energy consumption and operating cost. It will also raise public awareness of residential energy efficiency and facilitate investment, entrepreneurship and job creation in the energy efficiency sector.

NOTES TO EDITORS: The Improving Energy Efficiency for the Low-Income Housing Sector project is a three-year initiative funded by USAID and implemented by Habitat for Humanity Macedonia.  Its aim is to improve the energy efficiency of 26 collective housing buildings in seven municipalities in Macedonia.
