To improve reading skills and boost interest in reading among primary school students, the USAID “Reading Together" Project will hold a ten-day reading festival with the City Board of Education February 20 to March 4, 2015 at educational complex № 66 in Bishkek (Vostok-5B, Mambetova St.). Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the City Department of Education, and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will take part in the events.
The festival will include open lessons highlighting the components of effective reading, a children’s book competition on "My favorite fairy tale,” a young readers competition, a children's essay competition on "My favorite book," an exhibition of bookmarks made by children, performances of plays based on fairy tales, and many other events.
“Reading in primary school is the basis for successful learning. The improvement of reading skills in early grades is the strategic direction of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Central Asia,” said Michael Greene, Director of the USAID Mission in the Kyrgyz Republic.
